Few things are as picture perfect as a pair of Saint Laurent sliders on a summer afternoon
It’s the smack-dab middle of summer, and all you want to do is wear something comfy and cool. If errands are on the agenda, then sneakers might be the best, but today it’s sun, relaxation, a tote full of snacks, a good book, and maybe a cocktail in the afternoon. No need for sneakers.
The perfect footwear companion to a chill day poolside or just lounging in the A/C? A pair of Saint Laurent sliders in glossy tortoise patent leather. Or studded suede! Or black croc-stamped leather!! They also come with an ankle strap if you like a snug fit.
The iconic Saint Laurent Tribute stiletto style of knotted-strap sandal—circa 2004 under then-creative director Stefano Pilati—came in the form of flat Saint Laurent sliders this year (above), and they proved to be one of our most popular shoes during the first half of the year. With many cities and communities in quarantine, these simple but classic casual shoes gave many of you a reason to celebrate—and sparkle just a bit, during an uncertain and stressful time.
Now, we’re well into a staycation summer and that means lots of lounging, either at home or in a safely socially-distanced way. Saint Laurent sliders, espadrilles (below), or wedges are the perfect lift to an otherwise subdued 2020.
Did you know that espadrilles were originally worn by peasants, but were popularized throughout the last century by cultural figures like Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dalí, John F. Kennedy, or Yves Saint Laurent. They are mostly produced in Spain, but are intrinsic to the brand DNA of many European labels, like Saint Laurent, Loewe, and Chanel.
Other Saint Laurent summer styles have also been highly-sought over the last few months, including the Bianca platform sandal (below top left), Tribute wedge (below, bottom), and Cassandra wedge style (below right), which features thinner leather straps and a “YSL” logo down the front.
Throughout the range of designer summer footwear options, Saint Laurent sliders, espadrilles, and sandals are sexy, thoughtfully designed to flatter the foot, and ultimately, an expression of utmost summer style…even if just as a companion on a trip out to the patio.
