“The woman that wears Fabiana Filippi is comfortable”
Like Brunello Cucinelli and Max Mara, Fabiana Filippi is more in the business of timelessness and superior quality than trends, logos, or bold graphics. As a sort of follow-on to our article from a few weeks ago on Stealth Wealth, we wanted to profile this name you may not be familiar with, but which epitomizes the understated, casual elegance aesthetic.
Fabiana Filippi was founded in 1985 by brothers Mario and Giacomo Filippi Coccetta in Umbria, a region often called “the cashmere route” thanks to its fine fabrics and yarns from local lambs and goats.
Today, the label is sold around the world in the brand’s own stores and in the best multi-brand shops alongside younger, flashier names. Its enduring appeal comes from a simple mantra: the woman who wears Fabiana Filippi is comfortable. Literally, because of high-quality materials like silk and suede, and figuratively, thanks to forgiving silhouettes, gentle fabric draping, and simple colors and treatments.
We love the brand because its designs are timeless and chic, so they’re a worthy investment for closet staples and go-to pieces. But the simple designs also look more expensive than they are. Certainly they’re not ‘inexpensive’ but compared to very similar lines like Brunello Cucinelli, Max Mara, and Hermès, Fabiana Filippi presents a fantastic and real value.
This season, many of the looks have a safari feel (above), from a belted cotton shirtdress to silk drawstring shorts and a woven hat in varied shades of brown.
Evenings are privy to the same effortless elegance as daytime looks, only with more delicate textures and embellishments: we love this sequined camisole and this long, fringed black dress with neckline beading. Heeled sandals aren’t too tall, either.
Classic looks from the brand, perhaps for the cooler months, might come in the form of the oh-so-delicious dark green silk coat (below and already sold out!), these patent ankle boots, and a black leather tote that looks very The Row at a fraction of the cost.
None of these designs are particularly edgy, nor do they attract extra attention. But they are incredibly chic, understated, and likely to be noticed only by those with a special eye for good quality and design.
Fabiana Filippi may be a new name to you, but it’s been around a long time, and has a loyal following of sophisticated women around the world. Will you be one of them?
