Tod’s shoes are crafted in Italy using only the finest leather, so they will last you years and years—if you care for them properly. And, aside from storing them away from moisture, dust, and direct sunlight, a monthly cleaning is in order if you want to keep them in mint condition.

Here’s how to clean Tods driving shoes:

Suede: gently brush the suede using a quality crêpe brush, which is epecially designed for suede and nubuck care, to remove dirt and grime. English footwear enthusiast Nigel Cleaver recommends using steam to reinvigorate your suede, as well as waterproofing spray.

Leather: dry brush your leather shoes using a quality horse-hair brush. Them, use a soft, lightly dampened cloth to wipe them clean. Every few months, apply an oil to condition and moisturize the leather, followed by a shoe cream or polish.

Soles: regularly clean the soles of your shoes using a damp cloth and neutral detergent. You can also use a toothbrush to remove dust and debris.

• Double Slip Knot: cross the left lace over the right and create a knot. Make two loops, one with each end, making sure they’re the same size. Cross the loops. Wrap the left loop up and over the right loop, and the right loop back and around the left. Pull both loops through the central hole, and tighten them.
• Bowknot: cross the left lace over the right and create a knot. Create a loop with one end only. Wrap the remaining string around the loop and through the resulting central hole.
