The MTV Video Music Awards, known endearingly as “The VMAs” have turned into the rock, pop, and hip-hop version of New York’s fashion week.  It’s where designers put forward their most daring looks and stylists go for cues.

MTV VMA Red Carpet Fashion

This year’s VMA Red Carpet Fashion had everything from classical silhouettes (thanks Nicki Minaj) to whatever cultural appropriation Miley Cyrus was trying to shock with this time.  For those who don’t think wearing pasties out on a date is appropriate for your own personal taste, there are still some hot trends that came off the red carpet we can appropriate for ourselves.

This next outfit mimics the pink look worn by Demi Lovato, but without the don’t-try-this-at-home  plunging neckline.  Twin Set’s Lace Trimmed Dress has the look of something a bit risqué but plays at demure.   Pair it with these killer—I mean kil-il-il-erChristian Louboutins heels (which are actually quite reasonably priced for Louboutins) and you’re on your way to a night of glamor.  I love this little Jimmy Choo clutch. Accessorize your look with an Alexander McQueen bracelet and you’ve got this!

The I-Don’t-Want-to-Be-Here (But I Secretly Do) Look

Cara Delevingne is the twenty-teens version of Mila Jovovich only without the cool Leeloo role to give us quotables like, “Mul-tee-pass.”  Her star dress has that oversized t-shirt look to it, but it gets all dressed up with great-looking strappy sandals.  Recreate her star turn with a stellar Jimmy Choo bag, an easy-wear Twin Set Little Black Dress, matching earrings, and an Ugo Cacciatori statement ring. Put it all together you’ve got your own version that is fresh and sophisticated, and ready for a big night out.

The I’m-Sexy-as-Hell (But Look Ma! I’ve Got All My Clothes On) Look

I have to admit it, I had no idea who Martha Hunt was before her red carpet turn in Taylor Swift’s girl squad, I just know I would throw her in front of a bus for that dress.  It’s sexy, bares a little but leaves room for the imagination, much like this Ermanno Scervino Lace Dress.  You got black, you got sleeveless, it’s a mini dress made of lace—you can’t get sexier and still be wearing clothing.  To give this dress a more rock-n-roll look, pair with the Valentino Rockstud clutch and killer heels.  This Ugo Cacciatori ring and drop earrings are just what I need for my next going-out look. I’m pretty sure these are the dangly earrings you need to change your life.

Rock on!
