The iconic double-breasted Balmain blazer is a wardrobe icon
Ever since designer Oliver Rousteing took over the creative helm of Balmain in 2011, the historic label has experienced a renaissance. Modern interpretations of its haute couture archives have resulted in a renewed excitement for its ready to wear, shoes, and accessories collections, which are dramatic and powerfully feminine.
The must-have Balmain piece is the iconic double-breasted blazer, which is inspired by the cinched-waist and exaggerated-shoulder styles of the 1980s. Fresh for 2020 in multiple variations, here are three ways to style the iconic Balmain blazer:
Classic Balmain
The classic Balmain style is daytime-friendly, with a “power suit” feel: pair a black jumpsuit, white blazer (in crinkly crepe or stiffer cotton canvas), or the tweed variation with classic black pumps and a statement top-handle. The Balenciaga Classic City in denim blue or the Saint Laurent Sac de Jour in white complement the look elegantly without stealing attention.
Casual Balmain
For something more casual and weekend errands appropriate, Balmain has versions of the its blazer in belted denim and pink cotton. Pair with a logo tee—the blank tank is timeless but we love the champagne sequined version—and flat footwear like chain-detailed thong sandals or all-black sneakers.
Evening Balmain
Should you find yourself with somewhere to go out at night (or not, if you’re hosting a stylish gathering at home), Balmain is the master of evening glamour. Or, go full rock-and-roll with biker jacket versions in cotton camo or traditional black lambskin.
