For the cooler months of the year, Isabel Marant ready to wear staples and Isabel Marant boots are the perfect companions
Since the mid-1990s, Isabel Marant has drawn a cult following. With her eponymous main line and diffusion label Isabel Marant Étoile, the designer sits at the intersection of classical French female flair, rocker-chic, and everyday wearability. And—the fall is her season.
Isabel Marant Boots
Suede is a material you’ll find throughout the collections, but especially for one of her most iconic products: Isabel Marant boots. Constructed to really be worn, out and about, through city and country. They’ll get better with age, and that’s part of the appeal of her designs. They look better with a few battle scars on them.
The Duerto boots are a classic Western boot, with pointed toes, set on a low heel. The Dewina boots and Dicker boots (above lower left) are nearly identical, except the ‘leg’ is slightly shorter—more of an ankle boot than a mid-calf boot. For something completely flat, but with a similar silhouette, try the Crisi boots (above center).
This season, the Limza boots (below) are the star. They take inspiration from the designer’s Western-style boots, but add a conical heel shape (a bit more ‘fashion’ and less ‘cowboy’), with the addition of bright metalwork on the heel and toe tip. They come in a polished calfskin leather, which helps differentiate them from their siblings.
Isabel Marant Fall 2020 Ready to Wear
Aside from bold boots, Isabel Marant is loved for her elegant and highly wearable ready to wear collections. With an emphasis on neutral colors and soft, textural fabrics, very little with the ‘Isabel Marant’ label will feel overly revealing, constricting, or uncomfortable to wear.
Quite the opposite—her soft knits, unstructured outerwear, and smart trousers flatter a wide range of body shapes and sizes. This fall, we love investment pieces like the plaid Gabriel coat (above on the model and to the right of her) and simple oversized, single-button wool-cashmere coat (below). That creamy off-white color is just…perfection!
To pair with either coat, we love the universal versatility of Isabel Marant’s high-waisted jeans. Try the Naliska cut in faded black (above), which contrast nicely with just about any other color (other than pure inky black, perhaps).

The Printed Dress
True to her French roots, Isabel Marant is also revered for her printed silk dresses, skirts, and shirts, which are often both eye-catching in pattern but muted in color. With unique cuts and compositions, they’re the sort of thing an art gallerist might wear; they’re not likely to attract unwanted attention, but elegant enough to look highly polished and almost architectural.
In many ways, the Isabel Marant woman enjoys fashion and appreciates beauty, but is inspired by art, design, and nature more than hype. You’ll find very few visible logos on Isabel Marant or Isabel Marant Étoile pieces, and the collections do not change drastically season to season—so they’re all worthy as long-term wardrobe investments.
